1984.
Just came across this video. It’s George Orwell’s 1984 written by Eric Arthur Blair (real-name) in 1949. It paints a bleak picture of a post nuclear conflict world divided into 3 power blocks, all of which are equally repressive of the citizenry. Way back then in 1984, Orwell was denounced as a “false prophet” and his book as nonsense. Take a look at it now and see if his ever watchful “big brother” is as far-fetched as it them seemed.
On “Snap-shots”.
Noticed these things “popping up” for a while, links to all sorts but of late they seem to be putting out stuff. Scurrilous stuff indeed, heard this type of material many years ago guess I know where it is coming from now. Also noticed a reaction to some of the video’s, they didn’t go down well with a certain quarter despite the fact that they been up for years. Its the long and the short of it . I find it amusing that stuff on this blog seems to get such a reaction. I am beginning to think the stats are way off. The times they are changing !
Spain Wins the World Cup.
Well the World cup has just been presented to the Spanish football team who won the World cup
in extra time 1-0 (26th minute). Well this tournament will be remembered for all the big sides that departed early, England, France, Italy, Brazil and some controversial referee decisions. What do you think was the match of the tournament ? Maybe its just me but I wasn’t set alight by the world cup this time. Generally I think that South Africa is the real winner of the World cup, it certainly cost plenty but South Africa has got a lot of promotion and of course prestige. A word must surely be said for all the players, managers, backroom staff who operated under such pressure they could only be one winner at the end of the day. A pity Ireland didn’t make it.
Cowen announces State visit of Queen Elizabeth II.
Our Taoiseach Brian Cowen has announced that he expects the Queen of England to visit the republic before the end of the next year (2011). Speaking at 10 Downing Street on his first meeting with British prime minster David Cameron he can see no obstacle to the Royal visit this despite a long bloody history between the two countries. The British Monarch is know to want to visit for some time, both the English Queen and her husband are well in their 80′s and would feel that time is running out for a visit. Certainly Brian Cowen feels that a visit should go ahead but whether we all agree is a different matter. Has Ireland’s history put to right ? What about Northern Ireland ? Has that been resolved ? The bird in the bushes knows a-lot of currency was involved in the peace process. Surely Fianna Fail’s claim to be a “Republican” party should be dropped at least .
France is knocked out of the World Cup- Hip hip horray.
The France vs South Africa match is over and France have got their well deserved comeuppance and are now out. None of their matches was really much to watch with more attention being paid to the bust up between the players and the manager (echo’s of Saipan). They drew their first match with Uruguay, lost the match with Mexico and now have gone down to South Africa 2-1. A lot of the other “big” teams are similarly under preforming ( is England next ?). Hopefully the World Cup will get a little more exciting as they enter the knockout stages.
Fine Gael loses the plot.
Well this has been the story of the day/week , Fine Gael have decided to have a leadership battle. They had Fianna fail on the ropes after two reports on the economic crash or ” Banking reports” ( so as not to put any blame on the politicians ) and the Irish Times/MRBI poll which put Labour ahead as a political party. Seems it was the best time for people to realize their political ambitions, after quiet alot of encouragement from the main stream media. Fianna fail must now surely make it to 2012. To be honest I think there is another hand behind the scenes pulling all the strings, that’s my opinion anyway.
The Wexford man, the “Pornstar” and Hypocrisy
This is a topic 
which has been covered by numerous tabloids/radio stations over the last few weeks (Television X ‘s/Tanya Tate “Sex Tour of Ireland” -her exploits in the Camper van and the unexpected publicly her “guests” got). It’s not normally something I discuss as it’s somewhat a descent into the mire but the level of hypocrisy is somewhat staggering.
I don’t get what made these people want to appear on a program on Television X knowing a lot of Irish peoples “village mentality” and love of gossip. The hypocrisy of people paying to watch this stuff and then putting it all over the internet, newspapers is something else.
The people involved are now trying to live it down but they have certainly given the tabloids something to write about anyway.
On the World Cup..
Just watched a few matches, haven’t got to see them all. They are not exactly setting the world alight with the games so far. Germany demolished Australia 4-0 in a clearly unequal contest also saw the England vs USA game. Some people had idea’s that England would be the favourites for the competition, well after that match they are clearly way off. England didn’t play well as a team, very unglued (USA would now seem to have a good chance to make it to the next round). One was left wondering how they qualified, their group must have been easy. They are being beaten at their own game at the moment anyway (England). The next France vs Mexico should be good, wait and see I guess.
