Get set for Lisbon II.
Brian Cowen in Paris.
Our “ Glorious leader ” I see was on a trip to Paris and met his old pal Mr Sarkozy. No doubt they are hatching a new scheme on the rerunning of the Lisbon referendum. It is more or less certain that a new referendum will be held in the new year, most likely in March but definitely before the European elections.
One wonders whatever happened to that “kite” they flew during the summer. That they had some reason or other why they “ must have another referendum ” pretty arrogant what !!! but it then sank like the Titanic.
What happened ?
So you can send your own answers to this one on a postcard to the Dept of Justice, 94 St. Stephen’s Green, Dublin 2.
Anyway did our “ Glorious leader ” have time to do a spot of begging afterwards !!!
Lisbon Treaty and why we voted No.
There has been some amazing analysis from the Government during the week, apparently they reckon the main reason people voted No was the fact that they didn’t understand the treaty. Now they needed consultants to tell them this !!
Despite the illegibility of the treaty been made apparent from the outset the Government think they have a excuse to rerun the same treaty. Here’s my take on why Ireland voted No on June 12.
1. A hard fact here for the Yes side is that they lost all the debates and thats despite the highly biased nature of many of them.
2. The Government’s attempt to force a Yes vote got a lot of peoples back up and they frankly did the opposite of what the Government wanted.
3. A vote for No surprises, our beloved leaders didn’t get the blank cheque they wanted.
There isn’t any valid reason why Lisbon should get a rerun except of course to do as Mr Sarkozy tells us.
Run up to Lisbon II.
The establishment didn’t get want they wanted on June 12th so we are facing into another attempt to ram it down our throats apparently in the new year. Presumably it will more or less the same treaty just comes with more threats than the last one. Personally I think if we can have a referendum rerun because the establishment didn’t get their way how about another general election especially if the government loses.
I don’t see how anyone could sell this as a good deal for the country, under Qualified Majority Voting Ireland has weighted vote of 0.8 % and no veto !! So what is to stop the bigger countries from taking advantage and making decisions they suit them and not us, nothing basically. Lisbon II has already started and its going to be dirty !!
